Announcement: Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) 2027 - Kyoto, Japan
The Japan Society for Medical Education (JSME) and the Centre for Medical Education (CenMED), Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) will organise the Asia Pacific Medical Education Conference (APMEC) 2027, which will be held in Kyoto, Japan, from 13-16 January 2027.
APMEC is one of the leading conferences in health professions education in the Asia-Pacific region, providing a forum for educators, researchers, and institutional leaders to exchange scholarship and engage with emerging priorities in medical education. Hosting APMEC 2027 in Kyoto - a city long associated with scholarship and intellectual exchange - reflects Japan's commitment to strengthening international engagement in health professions education.
The theme for APMEC 2027, "The Wisdom of Imperfection: Learning Beyond Efficiency," invites educators to reflect on the lessons found in the spaces between progress and perfection. Inspired by Japanese aesthetic traditions that highlight the interplay between light and shadow, the theme draws attention to the subtle contrasts that shape meaningful learning and encourages scholarship that embraces reflection, humility, and becoming in the training of healthcare professionals.
We therefore warmly invite all educators and researchers to contribute to APMEC 2027 by sharing their scholarship and experiences in Kyoto. The conference is organised in partnership with leading organisations in health professions education, including AMEE, ACGME, ACCME, AAMC, IAMSE, WPAME, and the APME-Net, with support from the Japan Medical Association (JMA).
